Eminem’s Early Life and Troubled Childhood
Marshall Bruce Mathers III or commonly known as Eminem was born on the 17th of October 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Debora Rae Nelson and Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr.
His parents separated soon after Eminem was born. He was raised by his mother where they moved to different cities and eventually settled down in Detroit Michigan.
They lived in a dense African-American community which made Eminem’s childhood difficult as he was constantly bullied due to his skin color. He didn’t have a good relationship with his mother which led to him dropping out of high school due to their constant quarrels.
While growing up, Mathers leaned towards rap and even joined a few rap-events in their underground rap scene.

Marshall started his career in rapping back when he was still fourteen. He, along with his friend DeShaun Dupree Holton, also known as the rapper Proof, used to attend rap contests back in “Osborn High School” and then proceeded to compete at West 7 Mile in Detroit.
After a few years, Marshall and DeShaun later formed their own group in 1996, called “D12” or “Dirty Dozen”. They were able to create hit singles like “Fight Music” and “Shit on You”.
Eminem then released his first album in 1996 called “Infinite: which talked about the struggles he had after his daughter’s birth.
The rapper at this time was mentally unstable to the point that he created his own alter ego “Slim Shady” to cope up with everything. He also made an extended play which was also titled “Slim Shady”
Dr. Dre was able to hear his EP and wanted to help Eminem create a hit album. This resulted in the release of his breakthrough album “The Slim Shady LP”(1999).
The following year, the rapper released another album called “Marshall Mathers LP” where it sold for over 2 million copies.
The album also contained the song “Stan”, which was about an obsessed fan that killed himself and his wife due to the rapper unable to respond to his messages.
The rapper went on and proceeded to release more popular albums like “The Eminem Show”, “Encore” and “Recovery”. With all of the songs that he has made, it managed to get him a following and also had huge leaps in his career.

With the artist having created a number of hit albums and singles throughout his entire career, he’s been able to win several awards. The release of his “The Marshall Mathers LP 2” album managed to win him a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.
One of the songs in the album “The Monster” was also able to get an award for “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration”. Other Grammy Award Winning Albums that Slim Shady has created include “The Slim Shady LP”, “The Eminem Show”, “Relapse”, and “Recovery”.
His song “Lose Yourself” for the movie “8 miles” also managed to win him an Academy Award for “Best Original Song”, and also got him nominated for several Grammy Awards.

Marshal Mathers has openly admitted that he’s been dependent on drugs such as Valium, Methadone, and Ambien.
His drug addiction got so severe that at a certain point in his career, he gained a lot of weight from binge eating. He even had an overdose from Methadone which lead him to be hospitalized.
There have also been controversies about the rapper being a homophobe due to the homophobic context in some of his songs. He claimed that they were just songs and it isn’t affiliated with any of his beliefs.
Another one of his controversies was when there was an audio leak of him with the title “Eminem-Things Get Worse(Rhianna Diss).
It allegedly contained Eminem making a statement where he’d also side with Chris Brown on the issue where the Singer beat-up his ex-girlfriend Rhianna.

Eminem was still fifteen when he met his ex-wife Kimberly Anne Scott, who ran away from home due to her stepfather sexually abusing her. She went on to live with him and his mother and the two eventually fell in love and had a daughter in 1995 named “Hailie”.
The couple’s relationship has been a rollercoaster ride as they’ve broken up and got back together several times.
By 2006, they got back together but eventually filed for divorce after a few months which resulted in a public dispute over their daughter. This ended with both of them getting joint custody over Hailie.
By 2010, it has been confirmed that both of them are now in a friendly relationship and have no plans on getting back together.
