It’s without a doubt that when people think about the sexiest men alive, George Clooney would be included as one of them. This can be backed by the fact that he’s been named as ‘The Sexiest Man Alive’ by People magazine, twice. He, of course, has rightfully earned the title.
Clooney is one of the best actors in the world. He has been named as one of the ‘Most Influential People in the World’ by Time. The magazine even dubbed him as ‘The Last Movie Star.’
Aside from all of these things, Clooney has also been gifted with a lot of assets at hand. He has earned them and has been great with handling each and every penny. In the year 2020, Clooney’s net worth is more or less than $500 million dollars. All these assets make him one of the world’s richest actors.
George Timothy Clooney, more popularly known as George Clooney, was born on May 6, 1961 in the state of Kentucky. He is an American filmmaker, producer, director, and actor. All throughout his career, he has won two Academy Awards and three Golden Glove Awards. One of his Academy Awards is from co-producing Argo and the other one is an actor in Syriana. He also received the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.
He is best known for being part of films such as Gravity, Ocean’s Eleven, and Batman & Robin. However, it would be safe to say that Clooney’s breakout role is on TV’s E.R as Dr. Doug Ross. From his performances in his works, Clooney is one of Hollywood’s most sought-after A-list actors.
George Clooney’ father is a former television host and anchorman, while his mother was a city councilwoman and a beauty queen. Rosemary Clooney, his aunt, was also an actress and a singer for a long time. It seems that the love for the limelight runs in the Clooney family.
George and Ada, his older sister, together with their parents had to move around a lot because of his father’s work. They moved to different locations throughout Ohio and Kentucky until they finally settled in 1974. The Clooneys settled in an old Victorian house in a small town known as Augusta, Kentucky.
There, even with some recognition, George and his family lived a modest life. He and his sister were raised in a Roman Catholic home and in a tightly-knit family. George’s father, Nick, made sure that even with his busy work life, he would have time for his family. Everyone would be present at the supper table and they would often talk about the recent events.
George went to Fort Mitchell, Kentucky’s Blessed Sacrament School. He then went to Columbus to attend St. Micheal’s School.
His First Exposure
At a very young age of five, George was exposed to the entertainment industry. On the TV shows that his dad hosted, he played sketch characters. However, during his middle school, he suddenly had Bell’s palsy, which partially paralized his face. This has caused him to temporarily struggle his love for expression. Fortunately, he recovered later on.
His First Ups and Downs
During his school years, George enjoyed playing sports more than reading his school books. However, he managed to get good grades.
He once told Esquire magazine, “I pulled out my report cards…I had all A’s and a B.”
George was a good baseball player and at 16, he got a tryout with the Cincinnati Reds. However, he never got a baseball contract.
Eventually, George opted to go to college. He stayed near his family and chose to attend Northern Kentucky University. There, he studied broadcast journalism. Unfortunately, George felt that he didn’t have what it takes to become like his father who he was constantly compared to. He dropped out of college even though he didn’t know what he should do next.
George stayed in Cincinnati for a little while. He worked as a shoe salesman. After that, he worked as a farmhand in a tobacco farm.
George was still working on the farm when Miguel Ferrer, his cousin and son of his aunt Rosemary Clooney, called him. During that time, Miguel and Jose Ferrer, his father, were working on a film in Kentucky. The film was about horse racing and George was invited by his cousin to work with them.
He worked with them for three months or so. George worked as an extra and was even given a few lines. And to keep himself afloat, he had to loan his car, an old Monte Carlo, to his cousin and uncle for $50/day. Even though the movie was never released, George caught the acting bug again.
His Rise To Fame
George had his debut in ‘Centennial’, a mini-series on television. Later on, he got small roles on shows such as ‘Roseanne’ and ‘The Facts of Life.’ After a few years, George got the role that launched him to stardom, Dr. Doug Ross on E.R. However, he got his real breakthrough after being part of the cult-classic ‘From Dusk till Dawn.’ After that, he starred in a rom-com, ‘One Fine Day’, which was different from his normal route.
Even with all his success, George has a few failures in his career. One good example of this is his lead role in ‘Batman & Robin.’
He co-starred in films such as ‘The Thin Red Line’ and ‘Out of Sight.’ George also starred with Mark Wahlberg in ‘Three Kings.’ The two teamed up again for ‘The Perfect Storm’ and ‘O Brother Where Art Thou.’
The 2000s seemed like the Clooney era. In 2001, he was part of a successful trilogy, ‘Ocean’s Eleven.’ The next year, he worked as a director in ‘Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.’ He also directed, starred, and produced in ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ and starred in the film ‘Solaris.’
It looks as though that George Clooney has had a good life. Like plenty of celebrities, he has invested in different assets and has used his money he has earned in the past 40 years wisely.
