Early Life and Upbringing
Jeffrey Bruce Atkins or Ja Rule was born on the 29th of February 1976, on a section of Queens borough in New York City. He was the only child of William and Debra Atkins as his younger sister inside his mother’s womb while the rapper was still 5 years old.
He grew up being raised by his grandparents and as a Jehovah’s Witness which had a deep impact on his life as he grew up to become a spiritual person.
Atkins then went to Public School 134 but was often bullied by his peers which resulted in his mother transferring him to Middle School 172. He was also given the name “Ja Rule” during highschool which he used as his professional name.
While at a young age, he already had a dream of becoming a music artist and started writing song songs by 1990 and later started a career in rapping.
Career in Rap Music
With the formation of the hip-hop group “Cash Money Click”, Jah Rule was able to start his career as a rapper and in 1995, they were able to release a few singles which gained them a bit of attention.
Sadly their group came to an abrupt end as one of their partners was sent to prison which led to the rapper to go solo in his career.
By 1998, Ja Rule was able to sign a contract label with Def Jam Records with the help of his acquaintance Irv Gotti and was featured in one of Jay-Z’s songs which gained him popularity.
Ja Rule was then able to release his debut album the following year called “VEnniVetti Vecci” which got the no.3 spot in the “Billboard 200”.
The rapper was then able to release more albums in the next two years called “Pain is Love”(2001) and “The Last Temptation”(2002) where both of them were able to become a commercial success and even got into the “Billboard 200”.
He then made a hate album in 2003 called “Blood in My Eye” which dissed at rappers like Eminem, 50 Cent. and D12. This was then followed with the release of his sixth album “R.U.L.E.” which had hit songs like “New York” and “Wonderful”.
Acting Roles of Ja Rule
While Ja Rule has had a successful rap career, he’s also tried to do a bit of acting by featuring in a few popular movies.
He had his debut in film with the 2000 hip-hop drama “Turn it Up” which then led him to get minor roles in movies like “Fast and the Furious”(2001) and “Half Past Dead”(2002).
The rapper also played a role in the horror-comedy “Scary Movie 3” as “Agent Thompson” and then had other minor supporting roles in several films like “Don’t Fade Away”(2009), Queen Latifah’s “The Cookout 2”(2012).
Ja Rule has also had a few business ventures like when in 2004, he created the clothing line called “ErvinGeoffrey” and also in 2006, he was able to launch a liquor company named “The Mojito”.
He also became the creative head and spokesperson of “Magnises” a card service company, back in 2015. And in the same year, Ja Rule also had a collaboration with Steve Madden to create the sneakers “Madden x Madden”.
In 2016, he also took part in creating the infamous Fyre Festival which was said to be a luxury event in the Bahamas but turned in a huge failure which sparked a lot of controversies.

In 2010, Ja Rule was sent into prison for 2 years due to his case of illegal possession of weapons back in 2007. He also went back into prison for tax evasion as he failed to pay his taxes for 2 years. He was eventually released by May 2013.
